Cheong laboratory studies molecular basis and the neural circuits in the brain.

Our main research goal is to understand the molecular mechanisms of the thalamic function in normal sensory perception and neurodegenerative diseases, which can be modulated by the interaction between glia-neurons and glia-glia. Our interests span a multi-level analysis, from the cell to the circuit to behavior. We dissect the molecular, cellular, and circuit mechanisms by utilizing various genetic tools to control specific elements of the system to investigate cellular components involved in the thalamic network function.
